Australian Surf Ski Coaching & Development Academy
ASSCADA was conceived, developed and established in 2008 by Rick Duncan a Surf life Saving Australia Level 3 Surf Ski Coach and Dean Beament a Level 2 Coach and 4 x Australian Surf Ski Champion on the key initiatives of providing clubs and individuals with information and tools in the form of specific training programs, information and mentoring to coaches and athletes.
This was not available in the past and as a result of ASSCADA coaching across clubs can now be achieved through sound management with open and transparent training tools available for anyone interested to either their development as an athlete or coach.
Since its inception ASSCADA has been welcomed and accepted into some of Western Australia’s stronger metropolitan and country surf clubs, including Trigg Island, Sorrento, Mullaloo, Fremantle, Secret Harbour, Bunbury, Geraldton, Port Bouvard and with minor input into Scarborough, Cottesloe and Albany. The programs are viewed as an important link for the progressive development of Western Australia’s future athletes and coaches which in turn will have a positive impact on the future of all clubs within Western Australia. The program has been implemented on a limited basis into Tasmanian and NSW clubs and interest has been shown from additional Qld, NSW and SA clubs during the 2010 winter months. Participating clubs see this as an outstanding achievement with boundless potential for the future.
This achievement can be viewed in a number of ways:
- Acceptance and implementation of the programs by the clubs; and
- Results achieved by the clubs in medals won,
- Numbers of athletes and coaches participating in the programs at club level.
ASSCADA provides programs, mentor coaching and training sessions on a weekly basis and during the 2009/2010 season was in contact with over 300 paddlers and coaches.
